Privacy Policy

This policy describes what Atlas Rug Guide actually does with your data. It is written against how this site is currently set up — not assembled from a template listing practices the site does not have.

Who runs this site

Atlas Rug Guide, at https://atlasrugguide.com. For any question about this policy, or about data held about you, see the Contact page.

The short version

This is a stock WordPress site with no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no third-party marketing tools installed. No plugin on this site profiles visitors. The only personal data collected is what you choose to type into a comment form, plus the standard technical records that any web server keeps.

What the site collects

Comments

If you leave a comment, the site stores what the comment form collects — your name, your email address, your website if you supply one, and the comment itself — along with your IP address and your browser’s user agent string. This is standard WordPress behaviour, and the IP and user agent exist to help identify spam.

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so that follow-up comments can be recognised rather than held in a queue, unless you ask for removal.

Spam filtering: Akismet is installed on this site but is not currently active. That means comments are not currently being sent to any external spam-filtering service. If Akismet or any similar service is switched on, this policy will be updated to say so.

Avatars

WordPress shows avatars beside comments using the Gravatar service. To do that, an anonymised string derived from your email address (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you have an account there. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After a comment is approved, its avatar is publicly visible alongside it.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may tick a box to save your name, email address, and website in cookies, so you do not have to type them again. These last about a year. Leave the box unticked and no such cookie is set.
  • Logging in sets cookies for the session and for screen preferences. These apply to whoever administers the site, not to ordinary readers.

The site sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies, because it runs neither.

Media

If you upload an image to this site, avoid images carrying embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Anyone can download an image from a website and extract that data.

Embedded content from other websites

Guides on this site may include embedded content — a video, a map, a post from elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website: it can set its own cookies, collect data about you, and track your interaction with it, especially if you are logged in to that service. Atlas Rug Guide has no control over that, and those sites’ privacy policies govern it, not this one.

Server logs

Like effectively every website, this one runs on a web host that keeps standard server logs — IP addresses, pages requested, timestamps, user agents — for security and for keeping the site up. Those logs are held by the hosting provider under their own retention practices.

What this site does not do

  • It does not run Google Analytics, or any other analytics or visitor-tracking platform.
  • It does not run advertising or ad networks.
  • It does not run tracking pixels, marketing tags, or remarketing of any kind.
  • It has no newsletter and no mailing list, and collects no email addresses for marketing.
  • It does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data — and will not.

If any of that changes — an analytics tool, an ad network, a mailing list — this policy will be updated before the change goes live, not afterwards.

Who your data is shared with

Very little leaves this site.

  • If a password reset is requested, the requester’s IP address is included in the reset email.
  • Avatar checks go to Gravatar, as described above.
  • The hosting provider necessarily handles traffic to the site in order to serve it.

Nothing is shared with anyone for any commercial purpose.

How long data is kept

  • Comments and their metadata: kept indefinitely, unless you ask for removal.
  • Server logs: kept by the hosting provider under their retention schedule.

Your rights

If you have left a comment here or hold an account here, you can ask for an exported copy of the personal data held about you, and you can ask for it to be erased. Some data may have to be retained where there is an administrative, legal, or security obligation to keep it.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you also have rights under the UK GDPR and the GDPR to access, correct, restrict, or object to processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

To make any of these requests, use the Contact page.

Changes to this policy
